The Giving Tree Project

At Building Maintenance of Tomorrow, we believe that it is the responsibility of every individual to do his or her part to protect our environment. In addition to using eco-friendly cleaning products and techniques, we also started a tree donation program called The Giving Tree Project to improve air quality, lower energy costs and combat the negative effects of carbon dioxide on our environment.

As part of the project, we’ve pledged to donate and plant one tree per year at each participating campus or organization. Our recipient list so far includes California State University Dominguez Hills, University of California Irvine and California State University Fullerton. We look forward to planting many more trees in the future.

COMBAT THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

They absorb CO2 while releasing oxygen back into the air. Over the course of one year, an acre of mature trees can absorb the amount of CO2 produced by driving your car 26,000 miles

COOLING THE CITY

Average temperatures in Los Angeles have risen six degrees in the last 50 years. Part of this is due to the fact that tree coverage has declined and the number of heat-absorbing roads and buildings has increased. Trees can cool a city by up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit by shading our buildings and streets, breaking up urban “heat islands” and releasing water vapor into the air through their leaves.

CLEAN THE AIR

They literally absorb odors and pollutant gases like nitrogen oxides, ammonia and sulfur dioxide. Trees can also filter metallic particles out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.

CONSERVING ENERGY

Three trees placed strategically around an average-sized building can cut summer air conditioning needs by up to 50 percent. By reducing the energy demand for cooling commercial buildings, we reduce carbon dioxide and other pollution emissions that come from power plants.
